Former Lady Maroon basketball players...

Kate Henninger ('03) is attended Abilene Christian University and played on the JV team.

Rachel Hokanson ('06) plays on the University of Texas Ultimate Frisbee team Melee which finished 9th in the nation in 2008. In the summer of 2007 Rachel cycled across America from Providence to San Francisco with Bike & Build.

Kristen Johnson ('02) averaged 8.7 points and 2.8 rebounds in her sophomore season for the Southwestern Lady Pirates in Georgetown. She earned conference All-Academic honors in 2003-04. She averaged 6.8 points and 2.0 rebounds and started 13 games for the Lady Pirates in her final season.

Ashley Morgan ('08) signed to play softball at McClennan College in Waco.

Reilly Robertson ('08) signed to play basketball at Southwestern University.

Mariah Smith ('03) is averaged 2.7 points and 1.8 rebounds per game before being sidelined with a knee injury during her freshman season at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin. She played in 22 games as a sophomore, averaging 2.1 points and 1.8 rebounds a game. As a junior, she started 19 games and averaged 6.8 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. As a senior, she is leading the team with 11.4 points and also averages 5.5 rebounds per game. Her 480 career points ranks her 41st all-time at TLU. She was also named American Southwest Conference West Division Player of the Week.

Emory Blake ('09) committed to play football with Texas Tech.

Collin Smith ('09) signed to run track at the University of Texas.

 

Other past Austin High notables...

Derek Atwood ('03) played with Tarleton State University. In 2005-06, he averaged 6.8 points per game for a team that went to the Division II Elite Eight.

Analisa Arellano ('03) played softball at Howard Junior College for two seasons.

Don Baylor (1967) is the current manager of Colorado Rockies and former great major leaguer with the Baltimore Orioles.

Lance Berkman is an two-time Major League All-Star outfielder for the Houston Astros.

Justin Berry ('08) signed a baseball scholarship at Texas Tech University.

Bruce Barnes ('26) was a member of the state champion doubles tennis team in 1926 and went on to star at the University of Texas (NCAA Doubles Champion) and as a professional. He also coached the Davis Cup team in 1939.

Hayden Bowers ('08) is playing linebacker at TCU.

Mark Buchanan ('08) is freshman Offensive Lineman at the University of Texas.

Trey Cannon ('08) signed to play football at Chapman College.

Amanda Cardona ('02) pitched for the Blinn College softball team.

Alaine Comsudi ('04) (soccer) walked on at UTSA.

Mike Cotten ('58) was the last quarterback of an Austin High team to win a playoff game (as of 2008). He went on to play for the University of Texas, going 25-5 as the starting quarterback from 1959-1961.

Jenny Cox ('02) was on the varsity rowing squad at the University of North Carolina as a sophomore.

Ben Crenshaw is a standout professional golfer who won 19 tour events including two Masters. He currently is playing on the PGA Seniors Tour. <more>

Ray Culp, Jr. was a star baseball pitcher for the Phillies, Cubs, and Reds from 1963-1973.

Jillian Curran ('08) plays soccer at Southwestern University.

Adam Dailey was High School All American and state champion at Austin High before going to the University of Arkansas on a track scholarship. At Arkansas, Adam earned five All American Awards and was a two-time Southeastern Conference Champion (10,000 meters). He was a part of nine (9) NCAA National Championship teams. At Arkansas, Dailey was the third fastest Razorback ever at 10,000 meters (28:34). Adam has written for track and field publications and organized trips to the 2004 Olympics in Athens.

Kat Daniel ('08) plays soccer at Southwestern University.

Shannon Dean ('07) is a sophomore soccer player at Angelo State.

Eddie Decambre ('07) plays football at Sam Houston.

Stephen Dellert ('06) is a freshmen with the North Carolina-Charlotte soccer team.

Diana Dopson ('83) was a state champion in tennis before going to the University of Texas where she was All-American.

Mychal Dungey ('07) signed with TCU to run track where he was an All-American during his freshman season.

Avery Dunn ('03), volleyball, has signed with Duquesne University. Highlight game>>  She does not appear on the 2004 roster.

Lydia Ernest ('03) ran track at Huston-Tillotson College where she was a member of the Conference Champion 4x100m relay team.

Bibb Falk (1916) was an outstanding athlete at Austin High who played baseball and football for the University of Texas and then went on to replace "Shoeless" Joe Jackson with the Chicago White Sox. After a stellar professional baseball career, he returned to Austin to coach the UT baseball team. Disch-Falk Field is named after Bibb Falk and his UT coaching predecessor Billy Disch. read more...

George Freeman ('02) averaged 12.4 points and made 46% of his three pointers in his sophomore season at Concordia University. As a junior, George averaged 17.2 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game and appeared on the cover of the 2005-06 Concordia University Media Guide.

Larkin Geyer runs on the University of Texas Track & Field and Cross Country teams and is a 2-time Academic All-Big 1st teamer.

Matt Goebel ('02) was 8-4 as a freshman and 3-2 as a sophomore pitcher for the Tulane Green Wave. He then medical redshirted before pitching for the Green Wave again in the 2005-2006 season where he appeared in 9 games out of the bullpen.

Woodrow "Trey" Grady ('02) played football at Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia.

Joe Hamill ('03) played Lacrosse as a freshman at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania then transferred to the University of Denver.

Mike Hanschen ('04) played for two years as a guard on the basketball team at Southwestern in Georgetown.

Ralphael Hearne ('01) played is freshman year at Texas Southern University then transferred to University of Houston where he was listed as a wide receiver.

Orlando Hernandez ('03) played wide receiver at Texas A&M-Commerce where he led the team in punt returns.

Hayden Hunter ('06) is a sophomore walk-on linebacker at the University of North Carolina.

Cameron Jones ('07) is a redshirt freshman quarterback at VMI.

Kendra Hull ('03) received a scholarship to play Lacrosse to the College of Wooster. She does not appear on their 2005 roster.

Clay Kelly ('03) walked on and made the University of Georgia baseball team. He then transferred to Dallas Baptist.

Carole Keeton Strayhorn ('57) was a stand-out tennis player, cheerleader and student council president.

Erin Keys ('04) played tennis team at the University of Texas her freshman year.

Nathan Kruetz ('03) was a redshirt freshman football player at University of San Diego. He left the team after his freshman year.

Shandre Lewis ('03) played football at Cisco Junior College according to Texas Football Magazine.

Vern Lunquist ('58) attending Texas Lutheran University and then onto a sports broadcasting career which included being the voice of the Dallas Cowboys, commentator for college and pro football on ABC, TNT, and CBS. He has also announced professional golf events including the Masters and the PGA, figure skating at the 1992, 1994 and 1998 Olympic Games, and the Super Bowl.

Casey Marchbanks ('05) walked on at Rice (football) and made the roster. He earned his first letter in 2007.

Amanda Marston ('06) signed with Dartmouth in volleyball.

Laura Masch ('05) is a pitcher on the Ball State softball squad.

Nolan Mast ('01) started 33 games during the 2004 season for Texas State University after two seasons at Grayson County Junior College.

Al Matthews (late sixties) played safety and cornerback for the Green Packers from 1970-1975 after graduating from Texas A & I.

Hays McEachern ('04) (football) walk-on at the University of Oklahoma and made the team. He ran the scout team, earning awards for most inspirational walk-on and scout team player of the year. He also held on placekicks.

Richard Moothery ('01) played football for UTEP as a defensive back his freshman season.

Carl Myatt ('02) played tackle at Hardin-Simmons, at least through the 2003 season.

Harvey Penick (1923) become head golf pro at Austin Country Club immediately after graduation from Austin High. He coached the UT golf team for 32 years, winning 22 conference championships. His golf bible, The Little Red Book, was on the New York Times bestseller list for over 52 weeks and he was honored in the World Golf Hall of Fame.

Mandy Phillips ('03) is an infielder on the St. Edwards softball team.

Jeremy Pittsford ('04) (basketball) walked on at St. Edward's University in 2004.

Jason Pyle ('02) played baseball at Concordia-Austin after seasons at Tulane and the University of Arkansas where he hit .328 as a freshman.

Andrew Reinking ('06) is on the St. Edward's Hilltoppers Basketball team after playing a year at North Texas.

Scott Roudebush ('06) is on the TCU golf team.

Jay Reynolds ('01) lead the nationally ranked New Mexico Lobos golf team for 4 seasons. He had a career scoring avg. of 73.76. Jay was was an all state golfer at Austin High.

Jamie Riojas threw discus and hammer for the Texas A&M track team. She was an NCAA outdoor meet qualifier in 2004 and holds the 3rd best discus throw and the 4th best hammer throw in A&M school history.

Ben Schenkkan ('96) is a former Austin High Maroon football player who is now known as Benjamin McKenzie and is starring in the Fox TV series "The O.C."

Julie Scott ('94) was a two-time state champion in tennis before going to Stanford where she was caption of the tennis team.

Anna Seals ('02) played volleyball for St. Mary's in San Antonio.

Mary Seals ('04) plays volleyball at Loyola in New Orleans and was named All-Louisiana Volleyball 2nd team as a freshman in 2004.

David Seaborn ('75) is the Athletic Director at LBJ High School. For many years, he held the AISD single season rushing mark of 1,679 yards.

Glenn Shinaberry ('03) played on the University of Tennessee Ultimate Frisbee team for 2 years and now is the Sports Editor of the school newspaper.

Keith Shinaberry ('05) (pitcher) pitches for the University of Texas baseball team.

Xavier Silas ('05) played basketball for the University of Colorado. As a freshman, he is averaged 12 points and 3.7 rebounds for the Buffaloes. As a sophomore, he was averaging 9.7 ppg before leaving the team.

Lester Simmons ('04) won a partial scholarship in football at Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches. He redshirted his freshmen year and is now a junior running back.

Travis Smith ('07) signed with the University of Michigan to play baseball.

Sarah Stelly ('02) played as a freshman outfielder for the Lady Longhorns softball team in 2003. The team went to the College World Series.

Sandy Stern ('03) played for 2 years on the nationally ranked Texas A&M soccer team.

Wide receiver Fred Strong ('04) played at the University of Oklahoma for two seasons. He made the traveling squad and redshirted his freshman year. He had 9 receptions during the 2006 season. He left the school after his junior year.

Marcell Thomas ('04) ran track for UTSA.

Loyd Truesdale ('06) is a sophomore starting pitcher at the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Johnny Treadwell ('59) according to the Austin American-Statesman, "One of the best two-way football players in Texas schoolboy history, Treadwell starred at guard and linebacker for the Maroons in the late 1950s before becoming a college icon with the University of Texas. Treadwell's place in Longhorn lore came from the memorable 1962 game between No. 1 Texas and No. 7 Arkansas at Memorial Stadium. Texas trailed 3-0 late in the third quarter, and Arkansas drove to the Texas 3-yard line before Treadwell and teammate Pat Culpepper combined on a vicious hit on Arkansas running back Danny Brabham, forcing a fumble that was recovered by Texas in the end zone for a touchback. The inspired Longhorns then drove 90 yards for the game-winning touchdown. Texas included him on its all-time football team."

Jermaine Walker ('02) was a defensive end and Academic All-ASC at Hardin-Simmons.

Hallie Ward ('08) signed to play volleyball at Eckerd College in Florida.

Mike Warner ('06) runs cross country at Trinity University.

Sabrina Weeks ('04) is a trainer for the rodeo team at Odessa College. Prior to that she was a freshmen trainer for the rodeo team at Sul Ross State University.

Trey Weir ('07) signed to play football at Angelo State.

Hanna Wellborn ('07) signed with Cal State Bakersfield to play volleyball.

Hunter Wilcox ('08) signed to play baseball with the University of Texas.

Tommy Williams ('05) is on the University of Houston baseball team.

Lloyd Wilson (('01) played for four years at linebacker at Washington & Lee in Lexington, Virginia. He was a 3-year letterman and team captain and led the team in tackles as a senior in 2004.

Zach Wilson ('06) is on the University of Rice golf team.

Chris Young ('08) signed to play football at Trinity Valley Junior College.
